The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Good:
1) Our sweet babies have started smiling at us! There is nothing better than holding them and seeing a grin spread across their face!!
2) Loading the girls into the double stroller to go for walks-The weather has been perfect and the flowers in our neighborhood are absolutely gorgeous!
3) Denise, one of my college roommates, was in town this week. She and one of her little girls, Adeline, came to visit us on Wednesday and Mary and baby Drew came too!!

The Bad:
1) Braxton will be in New Jersey all next week for work! We will miss him so much! My mom is going to stay with me though.
2) Huggies Diapers.
3)I have washed and changed our sheets 4 times this week due to either a major spit-up episode or a leaky diaper (thanks Huggies!).

The Ugly:
I was in Dominos the other night picking up our dinner. I had to wait a few minutes because they were running behind. As I stood there waiting so patiently, the cashier who was pushing about 300 lbs., casually said to me , "So, are you about two months along?" I calmly and proudly said, "No, actually I had twins 7 weeks ago." Total awkward silence while he opened his mouth and inserted his foot. I felt sorry for the guy though. He meant well. He was just trying to strike up a conversation with me and just missed the mark a little bit. I tell you this not to illicit compliments or comments about my post-pregnancy body- you have all been so kind to do this already. I feel like I am where I should be at this point and am ok with that! I put this in the post to remind all of you and myself that if you are not sure, DON'T ASK! This is actually the second time I have been asked and I thought that it might get a little bit easier each time. WRONG!

Avery and Caroline-6 weeks old

Avery has caught up to her sister's weight! At her one month checkup, she weighed the exact same as Caroline. They both weighed 7 lbs. 1 oz. Braxton and I think she has surpassed Caroline in the weight category now. It will be interesting to see when we go back in two weeks! Avery's little face is starting to get round and chubby. It is so cute! She loves to make noise. She grunts so loud when she stretches and likes to grunt in general, usually for no reason. Caroline will often mimic the sounds that Avery makes! Sometimes, it seems like they are "communicating" with each other somehow. They love to be right up next to each other. During the day, I lay them next to each other in the bassinet. They try to kiss each other, hold hands, and snuggle with each other. It is absolutely the cutest thing I have ever seen! It is hard for me to take my eyes off of them when they are like this. I have taken so many pictures of this scenario. It is so sweet for me as their mother to see how much they love each other's company. I hope this never changes! You can tell that they have a very special bond already and it will be fun to watch how it continues to develop. They both love to be held which is sometimes challenging during the day when I am home alone with them. At night, the girls are waking up every 2 and half to three hours to eat. Sweet Braxton gets up with me every time to help feed one of the girls. He has done this for six weeks now and has never complained about it once. He is the best daddy! Our girls are very blessed to have him as their daddy.

Easter

Easter Sunday was our first time to take the girls to church! We got up at 6:30 to start the getting ready process. Avery and Caroline wore lace bonnets and pale pink daygowns with white lace trim that my mom made for them. We were able to make it out the door by 8:30 for our 9:00 service. We were proud of ourselves! We were nervous about how the girls would do during church, but they were perfect little angels the whole time. They didn't make any noise at all and slept the whole time! After church, we went over to the Weimer's for lunch. My family was there as well as some family friends of the Weimer's. We had a great lunch and a wonderful time hanging out with each other. Avery and Caroline got passed around and all the guys played Bocce Ball. The weather was beautiful! We had a great Easter! I look forward to sharing the Easter story and what it really means with the girls.

A day we will never forget!

On February 25, 2010, I left work to go to my weekly scheduled doctor's appointment. I was 36 weeks pregnant. My mom went with me because Braxton had an important conference call during my appointment. He usually never missed an appointment. Braxton was a very involved daddy from the start! At my appointment, my doctor thought that I had preeclampsia so he sent me over to the hospital to run some more tests and monitor me for a few hours. Dr. Kouri said that he would either send me home if my blood pressure lowered or keep me overnight in the hospital if it didn't. He also said that I might have to go ahead and have my C-section the following morning instead of on March 10th as previously scheduled. I was starting to get a little freaked out, but didn't think much of the situation. I figured that I would go for the tests, be sent home, and be put on bedrest. So, I called Braxton during his conference call and told him what was going on. He immediately left work and came to be with me at the hospital. After a few hours of being monitored, Dr. Kouri felt like the tests were inconclusive and wanting to continue monitoring me overnight. Braxton went home to get some clothes for us and to pick up some dinner. While he was gone, the nurse checked me and I was 4 centimeters dilated and 90% effaced! She then said to me, "You're having these babies tonight!" So, I frantically called Braxton to tell him to hurry up and get back to the hospital because they were going to start my C-section within the hour! I was immediately flooded with so many emotions: excitement that I would finally get to meet my sweet babies and see their little faces and hold them for the first time, anxiety about the surgery, anxiety about Braxton making it back to the hospital, and relief from months of being uncomfortable. Braxton made it back to the hospital and was sooooo excited that the time had come! He prayed with me before they wheeled me down to surgery. He came in right before they began my C-section and held my hand the whole time. Caroline was the first baby to come out. She was 5 lbs. 14 oz. and 19 centimeters long. Next, was Avery! She was 5 lbs. 10 oz. and 18.5 centimeters long. They were both healthy babies with no complications even though they were preemies! We are so blessed!! They were both able to come home from the hospital with us. That was my prayer and goal during my entire pregnancy.
